Ann Arbor Reskilling Mini Harvest Festival Set for Sept. 25

FROM CANNING to needlepoint, the Ann Arbor Reskilling Festival will offer classes that teach skills once passed on as a matter of survival. The event is scheduled for Sept. 25 and will take place from 6-9 p.m. at The Yellow Barn. The venue is located at 416 West Huron. The event includes a potluck dinner at 6:00 p.m. Those who attend are asked to bring a dish to pass as well as their own plates and utensils.

The festival’s educational activities kick off with a 6:30 p.m. Seedsaving Presentation. Permacuturist, Justin Pawloske will do a brief introduction on seedsaving. Festival attendees will learn the steps to a successful harvest of seeds for next year’s use. Using simple tools from your home, learn how to harvest, separate, avoid molding, and correctly save seeds.

There is also a class on Preparing for Winter with Foraging for Food and Medicine. In the class participants will talk about what opportunities there are for fall foraging, what to harvest, and how to preserve your finds for winter use.

There will be handouts provided, and there will be samples of plants and preservation methods.

There will also be a class in Beginning Needlepoint. The class is open to both men and women. It is an opportunity for those who may want to embroider anything, from practical things like name badges and initials in clothes, to decorative pillow cases and framed art to learn the craft.

From 9-10pm, there may be music, and there is a suggested donation of $5-$10.
