On July 7, 2026, Ypsilanti mayoral candidates Amber Fellows (Democrat) and Mayor Nicole Brown (Democrat) participated in a candidate forum sponsored, hosted and moderated by Nate Frazier. In the 90s, Frazier was charged with three CSC First Degrees (sexual penetration of a person under 13) and one CSC 4th Degree (force or coercion). Court records show the victim was a boy under the age of 12 and Frazier abused the child repeatedly. Frazier was convicted of the lesser charge, jailed, given years of probation, and is currently a registered sex offender. In a 2023 phone conversation, unaware that the court records documenting his sex crimes had been obtained and examined, Frazier described his crimes as “not serious.”
As recently as 2022, Frazier petitioned the 22nd Circuit Court to have his criminal conviction set aside. Nonetheless, Fellows and Brown participated in Frazier’s candidate event, where Frazier quizzed them about crime in Ypsilanti (not sex crimes), and the problem with Ypsilanti’s “YNs” (Young Niggas).
When asked if they knew what “YN” stands for, Amber Fellows said she did not. The Black Mayor of Ypsilanti smirked and laughed.
The Michigan Sex Offender Registry shows that in the four square miles of Ypsilanti, with its population of 18,000, there are 452 registered sex offenders, including Frazier. In comparison, the Michigan Sex Offender Registry shows that in Ann Arbor, with its population of 120,000, there are 333 registered sex offenders.
Data collected by the Washtenaw County Sheriff shows that between 2022-2026, more than half of all sex crimes reported in Washtenaw County occurred in Ypsilanti.
On LinkedIn, Frazier’s profile describes him as a “motivational speaker, life coach.” In 2021, the same year he tried to get his criminal conviction set aside, Frazier launched The Brotherhood. MLive reported Frazier as saying, “What we’re teaching is that we have to look at ourselves, and you have to take accountability for yourself as a Black man.” Frazier added, “Although The Brotherhood’s resources are geared toward Black men older than age 18, anybody is welcome to join or attend its meetings.”
Between 2013 and 2022, Frazier tried multiple times to petition the 22nd Circuit Court to have his record expunged. In 2013, the Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette opposed Frazier’s effort to have his conviction set aside. In 2021, another letter in opposition to Frazier’s continued attempt to have his conviction set aside was received by the court. Judge Darlene O’Brien signed an Order in January 2022 to withdraw Frazier’s Expungement Application.
As a candidate, Sheriff Alyshia Dyer participated in multiple “interviews” with Frazier, who now passes himself off as a “mental health” and “accountability” advocate within the Black community. His “specialty” is mental health awareness for Black boys and men. In 2023, County Prosecutor and current Michigan AG candidate Eli Savit participated in a panel discussion on Black Men’s Health hosted by Frazier.
On Sept. 12, 2025, Frazier posted a public tribute to Charlie Kirk: “Our family is mourning the loss of Charlie Kirk who was a man of courage, vision, and love for his family and his country. He changed my life in so many ways and I will forever remember him. We must not be silenced by the mob or by fear. We must be loud and carry on the vision Charlie lived for, which was to preach the gospel and to make America turn back to God.”
Fellows and Brown were both asked to comment about whether they knew Nate Frazier was a registered sex offender. Fellows’s campaign Treasurer is Brian Geiringer, the Exec. Dir. of Ann Arbor for Public Power. Geiringer was asked to comment on Fellows’s participation in the candidate event.
