Crime Report: Over Last 30 Days, in Ypsi and Ypsi Twp. 498 Crimes Reported, Including Six Murders

Editor: With this column, The Ann Arbor Independent launches Crime Reports for Washtenaw County cities and townships. The weekly Crime Report will also include Trial Court prosecutions of Capital Felonies charged by the County Prosecutor, such as murders, weapons crimes, sex crimes, domestic violence and felony assault.

Crimes Reported in Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Twp. between June 19-July 19 2023: 498

This map (courtesy of Crimemapping.com) shows the location of the 498 crimes reported between June 19-July 19 by victims to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and the Ypsilanti Police Dept. The majority of the crimes reported were assaults, including felony assaults and domestic violence. There were 40 vehicles stolen in that month and 82 vehicle break-ins. There were 23 burglaries and 12 robberies, the majority of which were armed robberies that involved guns.

In 2021, the Ypsilanti Police Dept. and the Sheriff’s Dept. reported a combined 5,800 crimes and solved about one-quarter of the crimes reported.
