Nature Tales: Sensational Spring

Join us select Saturday mornings for outdoor and nature-based activities that inspire you and your preschoolers and their grown-ups to explore and appreciate the out of doors at LSNC—Ann  Arbor’s very own backyard. Each session will be centered around a specific theme and include a variety of hands-on activities, like live animal encounters, guided hikes, group games, and enticing stories. Programs will take place outdoors rain or shine—please dress for the weather. This program’s theme is Sensational Spring.Registration is recommended. Ages: 5 years and younger  $4 per child ($3 per member), adults are free

 Critters Up Close at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum

Saturday, April 8, 2017 –

10:00am to 4:00pm

Now you have more opportunities to see Critters Up Close every month at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum! We bring a selection of live animals to the Museum and AAHOM offers special animal-oriented hands-on activities. Animals will be meeting and greeting visitors from 10-4 on Saturday (with a mid-day “Animal Naptime”) and 1-4 on Sunday.  This month’s theme is Frogs and Toads! Ages: All ages  Free with museum admission

 Fireside Fun- A Good Old-Fashioned Campfire Circle

Sunday, April 9, 2017 –

6:30pm to 8:00pm

There’s nothing quite as relaxing as sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and swapping stories. One Sunday a month, we’ll be stoking the fires here at LSNC. Bring your family, friends, camp chairs, outdoor games, and s’mores fixings. We’ll provide a blazing outdoor campfire and plenty of marshmallows. This event is rain or shine (except for thunder and lightening), so come dressed for the weather. Ages: All ages  Free

 Nature Tykes: Sensing Spring

Tuesday, April 11, 2017 – 10:00am to Tuesday, April 25, 2017 – 11:30am

Our Nature Tykes programs are designed with your 4-5 year old in mind. Each 1.5 hour session allows your early learner to have authentic, age-appropriate nature-based experiences. Monthly themes will help guide activities that include live animal presentations, hikes in Black Pond Woods, natural crafts, and hands-on experiments. This drop-off program is designed to encourage participants to feel comfortable asking questions, exploring, and engaging with the natural world. April’s theme is Sensing Spring. Programs will take place on April 11th, 18th, and 25th from 10-11:30am.  Ages: 4-5 years $29 per child ($27 per member) Registration is required before April 11th. 

Nature Playgroup

Wednesday, April 12, 2017; Wednesday, April 26, 2017

10:00am to 11:00am

Outdoor environments are a great way to engage all of your toddler’s developing senses, and give kids a bit of exercise, too! Join us select on Wednesdays as we come together for a mix of guided and self-guided outdoor activities that allow 1-3 year olds and their grown-ups to explore, engage with, and experience the outdoors.  Programs take place outdoors rain or shine–please dress for the weather. Ages: 1-3 years with an adult $4 per child ($3 per member), adults are free

Spring Eggstravaganza

Saturday, April 15, 2017 –10:00am to 12:00pm

Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians—oh my! Come on out to LSNC for a morning of investigating the many animals that lay eggs. Hunt for eggs in the woods and fields by following clues, solving riddles, or using GPS devices. Meet our birds of prey up close, visit the Critter House, play games, and more. You may even win one of five grand prizes if you find one of the mysterious golden eggs! Bring your own bag or basket for eggs and prizes, grab a friend, and join us for an EGGcelent morning of fun and adventure. Ages: Children under 12 years old, and their families $8 per child, adults are free Registration is required by April 12th.  

Earth Day Festival

Join us for an afternoon of celebrating the Earth through entertainment, education, exploration, and fun!

This free, family-friendly event features displays from local environmental, nonprofit, and governmental organizations; live animal demonstrations; hands-on activities; live entertainment; green building & commuting technologies; energy topics; water awareness; sustainable agriculture; and more. Ages: 5 years and younger $4 per child ($3 per member), adults are free Registration is recommended. 

Black Pond Woods Expedition

Saturday, May 6, 2017 –6:00pm to 8:00pm

Wear your boots and keep your eyes peeled as we hike through the woods to Black Pond. Using dipping nets and a video microscope, study the creatures that call this vernal pool their home and learn about the importance of the pond in the woods ecosystem. Then, meet some animals from the pond and woods up close as you explore the spring food chain! Ages: Children ages 5-12 and their families$9/person or $34/family ($8/person or $30/family for members) Registration is required by Thursday, May 4th.
