Time for Congressional Term Limits

by Irv Karwick

83 percent of Americans agree!

Can you imagine that there would be anything that 83 percent of Americans, of all political persuasions, would agree upon?

Well, it is true and is confirmed from sources such as Business Insider, Pew Research, The University of Maryland School of Public Policy and many, many more.

The agreement? Term Limits are needed for all Congressional Representatives in Washington.

Too many members of Congress have made careers there for a long, long time.  The median age of members of our Congress is 65 years of age, a striking fact when the median age of the general public is 39 years of age.  Additionally, it is a surprisingly long list of members of Congress whose ages exceed 70, 80, even 90 years-old.

Did you know there is a way to address this situation?

Article 5 of the Constitution provides a path for a gathering of the states to decide on Amendments to the Constitution, amendments such as term limits. The Convention of States is a non-profit, nonpartisan, grassroots organization working towards such a gathering. Their website, www.conventionofstates.com has information that may surprise you and provides a path so the will of 83 percent of all Americans can be accomplished.

Let’s join with our fellow Americans in 19 other states and urge our Michigan State Legislators to pass a resolution for Michigan to support of a convention of states to come together to discuss an amendment which would limit terms for members of Congress.
