CULTURE VULTURE: Elvisfest Coming to Ypsilanti Depot Town July 11
RIVERSIDE PARK, Ypsilanti, will be transported back in time to pay tribute to one of America’s most recognized figures–Elvis Presley®. The 15th Anniversary of the Michigan ElvisFest is one of a handful of events that is sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc.
Each year the event supports a number of local charities. The local charities that Elvisfest is supporting this year are Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels, and the S.O.S. Shelter
For two days, July 11 & 12th, 2014 there will be award winning Elvis Tribute Artists (ETAs) who will perform the songs from the hip-gyrating 50s to the Jumpsuit/ Concert years of Elvis’s life.
Returning to the stage are Leo Days and Matt Cage, as well as other favorites. Days (pictured above) is one of the few Elvis tribute artists who performs all three eras of Elvis, including the rock ‘n’ roll ’50s , the ’60s and the Vegas years of the ’70s. Days grew up listening to Elvis and won his first tribute artist contest when he was 15 years old. Over the past 12 years, Days has performed in casinos, theaters, corporate events and festivals, and on cruise ships throughout the U.S. All performers will be backed by Chicago’s Change of Habit Tribute Band.
Matt Cage is a multi-award winner, holding Professional championship titles across Canada and the United States. He was a top 15 finalist in the Ultimate ETA Contest in Memphis, solidifying his position as one of the top ETAs in the world.
Organizers invite visitors to rock ‘n’ roll their way over to the festival’s website www.mielvisfest.com to get information about all of the artists and other events.
Tickets for Friday are priced at $15.00 and for Saturday at $25.00 (no two day ticket available at the gate).
