Noon–3 p.m. Critter House Open Hours — Leslie Science & Nature Center, 1831 Traver Road. Observe frogs, turtles, snakes, rabbits, and more as they hop, crawl, and slither in their homes! Our animals include species native to the region as well many unique and exotic animals that have been donated by supporters. It’s a great way to get up close and personal with some adorable and unusual animals and help kids develop an appreciation for the incredible diversity of the natural world. All ages. Free. 10–11:30 a.m. River Kids — Gallup Canoe Livery, 3000 Fuller Road. Experience river adventures with your little one by kayak, canoe or paddleboat. Experience the thrill of catching fish off the docks and discovering river critters with stories, art and play. 3–4 p.m. Raptor Feeding — Leslie Science & Nature Center, 1831 Traver Road. See how feet and beak work together to help birds like the red-tailed hawk eat a rat or the peregrine falcon consume a quail. Volunteers will be feeding the birds and answering questions. 6–9 p.m. 14th Annual Mayor’s Green Fair — Main Street, downtown Ann Arbor. Celebrate the community’s environmental leadership as exhibited by citizens, nonprofits, government, and businesses. Ann Arbor’s downtown Main Street will be closed to regular automotive traffic, but will be open for exhibitors, bicycle events, live music and entertainment, live birds of prey exhibit, refreshments for sale and hands-on activities for all ages. 8–11 p.m. Full Moon Paddle on Gallup Pond — Gallup Canoe Livery, 3000 Fuller Road. As the sun sets and the full moon rises, venture out to paddle a canoe or kayak! Watch for deer, muskrats, herons and other wildlife as you paddle in this 2.5-mile pond section of the Huron River. Bring family, friends and a flashlight. 1–4 p.m. Critters Up Close! — Leslie Science & Nature Center offsite at Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum 220 E. Ann St. LSNC is bringing live animals and special, animal-oriented, hands-on activities to AAHOM. While at the museum, pick up the “Critters-Up Close!” passport, and start collecting stamps for this year-long series. 9 a.m.–2 p.m. County Cleanup Day — Northfield Township. Hall, 8350 Main St., Whitmore Lake. Washtenaw County residents (only) can drop off items for recycling, such as glass, cardboard, plastic, paper, scrap metal, motor oil, oil-based paints, cleaning supplies, electronics, Freon appliances and more. Please note, some items will be accepted for a fee; and no household garbage will be accepted. Also, this event is not for businesses. A donation of $10 per car is suggested. 10 a.m.–noon Materials Recovery Facility Open House: Summertime Streamers — MRF, 4150 Platt Road. Get ready to swish, swirl and capture summer breezes by creating a colorful streamer craft from surplus strips of hot air balloon fabric.
