LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Gov. Snyder Must Stop Rolling Back Environmental Protections
The Great Lakes and our scenic natural lands are keystones to who we are as Michiganders. We need politicians who will strive to protect these unique resources. Governor Snyder’s campaign led us to believe that he was this leader, but looking at his track record it seems that we were all mislead.
The Sierra Club’s recently released a scorecard rated Snyder on 32 key environmental decisions made during his first three years. Just 25% of the time he made the environmentally conscious choice. He signed into law 19 bills that are direct attacks on environmental protections, some of which removed protective regulations that Michiganders fought tooth and nail to establish over the last several decades. The Governor’s own ten point plan for reinventing Michigan includes protecting the environment, something it seems he forgot while playing the political game.
Rick Snyder’s actions as governor speak louder than his half hearted promises. It is time for him to stop rolling back environmental protections and take a stand on behalf of the Great Lakes and Michiganders alike.
