Trump’s One, Big Beautiful Bill (Law) Will Be Good For the Ann Arbor Area
by Catherine Rogers
I write to celebrate! We Americans will now enjoy more freedom and and prosperity as a result of the new bill (H.R.1, 119th Congress). The 2017 tax cuts that put money back into the pockets of Americans are now permanent. It gives families with children a tax break and even sets up a fund for every American child born between 2025 and 2028 (Section 70204). Hardworking Americans will have more money through tax cuts on overtime, tips, and loan interest. Section 119A gives small business owners and contractors deductions.
Even the cuts to Medicaid come mainly through requiring able-bodied adults to work at least 80 hours a month (20 per week), which is both healthy and reasonable (Section 71119). This bill is, according to lawyer Jeff Childers, a “revenue-realignment bill…another strategic step in reducing the deficit without raising tax rates on productive citizens.”
The biggest change this Bill makes is the shift in responsibility from the federal to the state governments. States should look out for their own people. That will be better for everyone. That’s just good old-fashioned common sense! I truly believe that in the long term, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will be good for all of us in the Ann Arbor area!
