Ann Arbor Neighborhood Network Launches Petition to Ask City Officials to Suspend Work on Master Plan Until There’s More Robust Citizen Input

by Bruce Laidlaw

Michigan law requires zoning ordinances to be based on master plans adopted by planning commissions and the municipal governing bodies. Ann Arbor’s Planning Commission is working on a revision of the City’s master plan without sufficient input from the City’s residents. Changes under consideration could enable zoning amendments that would drastically change the nature of Ann Arbor’s residential areas.

The Ann Arbor Neighborhood Network (A2N2) has prepared a petition asking the City Council to suspend work on the Plan which is being written with insufficient public awareness and input. A2N2 is a grassroots community-driven organization committed to encouraging all Ann Arbor residents to actively participate in city life and governance. Information about the plan and its potential impact on neighborhoods is attached to this message.

A2N2 is asking that residents add their names to a petition which urges Ann Arbor City Council to suspend work on the Master Plan so a more democratic, resident-centered, collaborative effort can guide the future growth of our city.

The petition will be forwarded to City Council.
