Veteran Affairs & The 2024 Election
by Theron Tingstad
As an Army Veteran who served in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne as a Ranger-qualified Airborne Infantry Officer, I have seen firsthand the sacrifices that service members make for our country. The challenges don’t end when the uniform comes off. Many of us rely on the support of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for healthcare and benefits that we have earned through our service.
Donald Trump and J.D. Vance’s Project 2025 poses grave threats to Veterans’ livelihoods by threatening to reduce the quality of care at VA hospitals, slashing disability benefits, and potentially barring some Veterans from accessing essential health services. For those of us who live with the physical and mental impacts of our service, these benefits are not just numbers on a budget sheet — they are lifelines.
In contrast to Trump’s complete disregard of our needs, Vice President Kamala Harris has a proven record of fighting for Veterans. The Harris-Walz ticket has prioritized expanding healthcare access through the PACT Act, which is the most significant expansion of benefits for toxic-exposed Veterans in over 30 years. This kind of leadership understands the sacrifices made by Veterans and the importance of keeping promises made to us.
As November approaches, I urge my fellow Veterans and community members to consider who truly stands with those who have served. We need leaders who value our contributions and respect the promises made to us, and that’s why I’m supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.
Airborne! Rangers Lead the Way!
