We Can’t Let Anti-Choice Candidates Send Us Backwards
by Kimberly Robinson
We have made so much progress to protect abortion access in our state. We can’t let anti-choice candidates send us backwards.
Mike Rogers is the Republican running to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate, and he has a long record supporting extreme abortion bans. In Congress, Rogers voted for many bills that would restrict women’s access to reproductive health care.
He even said once that he believes “abortions should be legal only to prevent the death of the mother,” with no exceptions for rape or incest.
That is not what Michiganders stand for – particularly since voters recently made the choice to enshrine reproductive freedoms in our state Constitution. We don’t want a senator who will undermine the will of voters in our state by restricting women’s rights to make their own medical decisions.
We can’t afford to go in the wrong direction. Michiganders should be the ones making their own health care decisions, not politicians.
Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin has always defended reproductive rights, so Michiganders have the right to decide when and how to have a family. In Congress, she fought back against Republicans’ attempts to limit reproductive rights and has pledged to fight back against threats to IVF access.
It’s critical that we elect candidates like Elissa Slotkin who share our values and will fight for reproductive rights in Michigan and across the nation.
