Washtenaw County Rep. Felicia Brabec Beats GOP Challenger With 70 Percent of the Vote

Former Washtenaw County Commissioner Felicia Brabec captured 70.8 percent of the vote to beat GOP challenger Robert Borer III to represent District 33 in the Michigan State House for another two years. According to her pre-general election campaign finance disclosure, Brabec took in $78,142 in donations and spent $79,134.75. In contrast, Brabec’s opponent brought in $2,760 in contributions and spent $1,788.92.

Among the Washtenaw County delegation to Lansing, during her first term in office Brabec missed the most roll call votes. According to data collected by MichiganVotes.org, Brabec missed 53 roll call votes out of 1,017.

Legislation Brabec introduced during her first term included:

A bill to prohibit employers from making certain recruiting or hiring decisions based on an individual’s credit history; to prohibit employers from making certain inquiries; to prohibit certain waivers; to prohibit retaliation; and to provide remedies.

Corporate income tax: credits; film incentive credit; restore. Amends 1967 PA 281 (MCL 206.1 – 206.847) by adding secs. 285 & 677.

A bill to establish the racial equity and reparations fund in the department of treasury; to provide for the expenditure of money from the fund; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state officers and entities.

A bill to provide for the creation of a home weatherization, fuel switching, repair, improvement, and hazards remediation program; to provide for contractor qualifications; to provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and entities; and to require the promulgation of rules.

She also introduced dozens of symbolic resolutions:

A resolution to urge the United States Congress to require firearm owners to purchase liability insurance.

A resolution to affirm that Obergefell v. Hodges was rightly decided.

A resolution to declare June 23-29, 2022, as Grassroots Week in the state of Michigan.

A resolution to recognize June 2022 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month in the state of Michigan.

A resolution to urge municipalities to use recently appropriated state and federal funding to pursue green infrastructure policies.
