The City of Ann Arbor partners with WAZE to provide residents, visitors and commuters a way to learn about road construction and traffic controls within the city. By using WAZE.com or the WAZE app (available free in your smartphones app store), drivers can view real time traffic information and get directions.
There are 16 road control and road closures in Ann Arbor as of June 21, 2017. Here is a list of those projects:
South Main: Saturday, June 24, 2017 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. On Saturday, June 24, southbound South Main Street between William and Packard will be detoured for crane work on the 400 block of South Main.
The detour will move southbound traffic west on East William Street, south on 4th Avenue, west on Packard Road and then back to South Main Street. Northbound will be detoured east on Packard Road, north on 4th Avenue, west on East William Street and back to South Main Street. Pedestrian traffic will need to be detoured to the east side of South Main Street for the public’s safety.
East Liberty/South Division: Tuesday, June 20-Tuesday, June 27, 2017.Beginning on Tuesday, June 20, the intersection of East Liberty at South Division will be closed in the eastbound direction for street resurfacing.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured around the construction area from one block to the west and directed to use South Fifth Avenue, East William Street and Thompson Street. The contractor will maintain one-way traffic on East Liberty Street through the construction area with one lane operating in the westbound direction.

Washtenaw Ave: Monday, June 19-July 14, 2017. Beginning on Monday, June 19, 2017 traffic on Washtenaw between Forest and South University will be reduced to one lane, eastbound, for ramp and streetscape work. Lane closure will be restricted to daytime hours, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pedestrian thru-traffic will be maintained on one side of the street at all times. Work is expected to conclude on our about July 14, 2017.
Nixon/Green/Dhu Varren Intersection: June 19-September 1, 2017.Beginning on Monday, June 19, 2017, the intersection of Nixon Road, Green Road and Dhu Varren Road will be closed to traffic for construction of a new roundabout. Eastbound Dhu Varren Road and southbound Nixon Road traffic will be detoured to Pontiac Trail, Barton Drive and then to Plymouth Road. Northbound Nixon Road and westbound Green Road traffic will be detoured to Plymouth Road, Barton Drive and then to Pontiac Trail.
Access for emergency vehicles along Nixon Road will be maintained through the construction zone. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be maintained.

Stone School Road: Monday, June 19-Monday, July 3, 2017. Beginning Monday, June 19, 2017, the right lane of southbound Stone School Road between Ticknor Court and Packard Road will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for sidewalk installation. During this time, traffic will be merged into the adjacent travel lane, and traffic will be maintained.
During construction, access for emergency vehicles, and to driveways, will be maintained to the full extent possible.
Maynard: Friday, June 16-Friday, June 30, 2017. Beginning on Friday, June 16, 2017, southbound Maynard between East William and East Jefferson will be detoured for crane work on the 400 block of Maynard.
Southbound Maynard Street will be detoured west on E. William Street, south on Thompson Street, east on E. Jefferson Street and then back to Maynard Street. Northbound traffic will be detoured north on Thompson Street, east on E. William Street and back to Maynard Street. Access to driveways and loading areas on Maynard will be maintained.
Pedestrian traffic will be maintained throughout the project, but at times will need to be detoured to the east side of Maynard for safety reasons.

South University: Monday, June 5-Friday, July 14, 2017. Westbound South University traffic will be detoured southbound on Forest, westbound on Hill Street and then northbound on Church or East University while a new 12-inch water main is installed to replace the existing, corroded water main. Subsequent streetscape construction will also occur. Pedestrian through-traffic will be maintained on one side of the street at all times. Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained with the use of temporary surfaces (e.g., rubber mats).
Stadium Boulevard Project: Saturday, June 17-TBA. On Saturday, June 17, 2017 the City of Ann Arbor will implement the Stage V traffic control plan for this project. The major element of this stage is to restrict South Main St. to one lane of traffic northbound at the Stadium Blvd. intersection. Portable message signs will have revised messages in locations that are most obvious for the upcoming change of traffic. Southbound South Main St. traffic will be detoured along Pauline Blvd. to South Seventh to Scio Church to South Main.
The project is still planned to be completed on schedule and be opened to traffic prior to the first home football game. Also, all lanes of S. Main Street are planned to be open for the Ann Arbor Street Art Fairs.

South Division: Wednesday, May 24-Saturday, July 8, 2017.
- Beginning Wednesday, May 24, 2017, a traffic shift to one side of South Division Street will occur in order to perform road resurfacing and curb/ramp/sidewalk work.
During construction, the contractor will maintain one lane of traffic in the northbound direction through the work zone. The full and partial closures respectively on East Jefferson, East William, East Liberty and East Washington streets at the intersections with South Division Street will require detouring traffic on to adjacent streets. These closures and detours will not occur simultaneously, and the city will issue a notice on each as they take place.

Arlington Blvd: Monday, May 15, 2017 until further notice. Beginning Monday, May 15, 2017, Arlington Blvd. will be closed to traffic in the northbound direction between Washtenaw Ave. and Heather Way for resurfacing, drainage improvements and curb and gutter work.
During this time, northbound traffic will be detoured westerly on Washtenaw Avenue and easterly on Hill St. and Geddes Ave. back to Arlington Blvd. One-way traffic on Arlington Blvd. will be maintained through the work zone with one lane operating in the southbound direction of travel.

Fourth Avenue: Wednesday, April 26-Monday, July 17, 2017. Beginning on Wednesday, April 26, Fourth Ave between Liberty and Washington will have parking removed from both sides of the street and the west lane will be closed to traffic. Two-way traffic will be maintained by shifting both lanes of travel east. The lane shift is necessary for construction work on the 200 block of South Fourth Ave. The lane shift will be removed on July 17, 2017.
South University: Monday, May 1-August 2017. Beginning on Monday, May 1, 2017, eastbound South University between East University and Washtenaw will be closed to through traffic for streetscape improvements and underground utility work.
Eastbound South University will be detoured south on East University, east on Willard, north on Forest to Washtenaw. Westbound traffic will be maintained.
Pedestrian thru-traffic will be maintained on one side of the street at all times. Pedestrian access into businesses will be maintained with the use of temporary surfaces (e.g., rubber mats). Work is expected to be completed sometime in August 2017.
Green Road, north of the Plymouth Road intersection: Thursday, June 8-Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Beginning on Thursday, June 8, 2017, Phase 1B of construction work will be added to the Phase 1A (described below) currently in place, and the traffic on Plymouth Road at its intersection with Green Road will be reduced to one lane westbound and two lanes eastbound. In addition, the left turning traffic from east and west-bound Plymouth Road onto Green Road will be directed to Commonwealth Blvd. and then to Green Road.
Phase 1A Traffic Control Plan: Currently, the traffic on Green Road at its intersection with Plymouth Road is reduced to one lane in each direction. In addition, the left turning traffic from south and south-bound Green Road onto Plymouth Road is directed to Commonwealth Blvd. and then to Plymouth Road. A temporary traffic signal was installed at the intersection of Plymouth Road and Commonwealth Blvd. This traffic control will remain in place through this phase.
Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be maintained.
These traffic controls are necessary for urgently needed water main replacement and repaving work.
Special event Road Closures in Ann Arbor
6 a.m. Thursday, June 22-2 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 the following street will be closed for The Event on Main (PDF) special event:
- South Main Street between William and Liberty.
Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. the following street will be closed for the MSTAFF200 Celebration (PDF) special event:
- North University between Thayer and Fletcher
Thursdays: July 13 and August 3 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. the following street will be closed for the Sonic Lunch (PDF) special event:
- Liberty between South Fifth and Division
Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) projects

Huron River Drive: Monday, April 10 through July, 2017. On Monday, April 10, 2017, a contractor for the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will close Huron River Drive between Chalmers Drive and Hogback Road in Ann Arbor Township to perform repairs to the Huron River Drive over the Pittsfield-Ann Arbor Drain.
The road will be closed to all traffic during the bridge repair work. The WCRC expects the work to be complete by the end of July 2017. However, please be advised that due to weather conditions, all dates are tentative and subject to change.
The posted DETOUR for this closure is Huron Parkway to Geddes Road to Dixboro Road to Hogback Road. Please be advised that bridge repairs on Superior Road between Geddes Road and Huron River Drive will occur concurrently, with traffic lane reductions.
