Since Jan. 2015, 1,549 Crimes Reported by the Ann Arbor Police Dept.
BETWEEN MAY 4-May 11, there were 81 crimes reported by the AAPD, down from 107 crimes reported the previous week. Since Jan. 1, 2015, the AAPD has reported 1,549 crimes, total. Last week, there were 17 vehicle break-ins, three in a single day (May 8) on Devonshire. Ten of the vehicle break-ins occurred within a two mile radius between Washtenaw and Geddes. There were 23 instances theft/larceny and 11 cases of vandalism. Of the eight assaults reported, none were charged as felony assaults. There were no robberies, and no sex crimes reported. There were five drug violations, three for possession of marijuana and one for possession of heroin.
During 2013, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department reported 6,391 crimes and a 33 percent clearance rate, according to Michigan State Police records. In 2013, 4,821 crimes reported by the Sheriff’s office remained uncleared.
In 2013, the AAPD’s crime clearance rate (arrest made/case closed) was 35 percent. In 2012, the AAPD’s crime clearance rate was 30 percent. In 2013, 4,508 crimes remained uncleared. In 2012, 4,785 crimes remained uncleared for a two year total of 9,293 crimes uncleared. The monthly tallies, right, show the types and numbers of crimes which have been reported.
