FALL-THEMED HALLOWEEN events are taking place in Ann Arbor throughout October. Check out these fun ways to celebrate the season.
Gather the kids and get in costume (optional) for Trick or Treat Down the River Sunday, Oct. 19, noon–5 p.m. at Gallup Canoe Livery (3000 Fuller Ave., 734.794.6240). By canoe or kayak, encounter creatures along the river handing out treats and candy. Bring a bag for collecting candy. Fee is $18 per boat. Pre registration is not required. Pumpkin-carving, face-painting and much more fun is planned for Saturday, Oct. 25, noon–3 p.m., at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market Halloween Celebration (315 Detroit St.). Skate to spooky sounds at the Veterans Memorial Park Halloween Skate, 1–2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 (2150 Jackson Road, 734.794.6235). Best-costume prizes will be awarded. General admission rates apply at this fun-for-all-ages event.
Animal Haunts at the Leslie Science & Nature Center (1831 Traver Road, 734.997.1553) is a family-friendly event Saturday, Oct. 25. Take a guided hike through Black Pond Woods, where costumed interpreters bring plants, animals and other natural objects to life through natural history and stories. Harvest games and crafts, pumpkins, face painting and a hay jump are included in the festivities. Don’t forget to dress up! Rates are $9/person or $34/family; $8/person or $30/family for LSNC members. Space is limited, and pre registration is encouraged.
Dog lovers, don’t miss the Olson Dog Park Halloween Party. This inaugural event takes place Tuesday, Oct. 28, 6–7 p.m., and activities will include a photo station, treats and a costume contest. Halloween Trick-or-treating for participating residents will take place in Ann Arbor neighborhoods between 5 and 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31. As a safety reminder, parents and guardians should supervise their trick-or-treaters, and children should stay in neighborhoods that are well lit and familiar, to help keep this holiday fright free and full of fun.
And finally … 8 p.m.-midnight on Oct. 31 is Halloween Teen Night at Mack Indoor Pool. Teens ages 13-17 can join in the fun night of swimming, glow sticks, pizza and a movie. Admission is $10 (price includes activities and two slices of pizza).
The Washtenaw Community Concert Band will present a Halloween Concert this Thurs., Oct. 30, free, with all costume children in audience invited to march. Can we list it in your online calendar?
