Three Armed Robberies in Pittsfield Between Sept. 6-12

BETWEEN SEPT. 6-12, Pittsfield Township police have reported three armed robberies. This spate of robberies brings to eight the total number of robberies reported by Pittsfield Township police over the past six months.

On September 6, 2014, at approximately 4:49 p.m., Pittsfield Police responded to the 5800 block of Michigan Ave. for an armed robbery. The suspect entered into the store, brandished a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register before fleeing the store. The victim sustained no injuries during the robbery. A K9 track was conducted of the area with negative results. There were no injuries and no arrests.

The suspect was reported to be a skinny black male, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, wearing a black baseball hat, blue hoodie, black sweat pants and white shoes.

On Sept. 11 and 11:20 p.m., Pittsfield Township police responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver in the 4400 block of Hunt Club Drive. The suspect produced a handgun during the attempted robbery. The victim fled the area on foot upon seeing the suspect approaching. No property was stolen and no injuries occurred. Canton Township Police K-9 assisted in an area search with negative results.

The suspect in this crime was reported to be a white male, heavy set in build, 6 feet tall, with short brown hair.

On Sept. 12 at 12:00 a.m., Pittsfield Township police responded to a report of an armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver at the Motel 6 on S. State Street. The victim was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash, pizza, and delivery bag. The suspect fled the area to the west and is believed to have left in a vehicle. Canton Township Police K-9 assisted with area search with negative results.

The suspect in this armed robbery was reported to be a white male, heavy set in build (250-300 pounds), 6 feet tall.

The Pittsfield Township Police Department reported a total of 44 crimes during the period of Sept. 6-12. The majority of the 44 crimes reported were retail fraud (16 crimes) and vehicle break-ins (10). Over the past six months, there have been a total of eight robberies reported by the Township police department and of those five were armed robberies. The Washtenaw County Sheriff has reported no robberies over the past six months in Pittsfield Township.

Over the past six months, there have been 16 robberies in Ann Arbor, four of which were armed robberies. The Washtenaw County Sheriff has reported 36 robberies over the past six months, concentrated in Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township. Of those 36 robberies, 16  were armed robberies involving a gun or some other weapon.

There have been no robberies reported by any local or county policing agency over the past six months in Dexter, Saline, Chelsea or Superior Township.
